3D Plant and Installation Design Software Projects
Quintic's 2D to 3D plant design and CAD expertise is deeply rooted, dating back to the very beginnings of the first plant design systems. Our teams develop and maintain entire plant design and factory layout software systems and apply their expert knowledge to small and medium-sized projects for engineering firms of all sizes. We also offer consultancy services based around the software we have helped to develop, to include customisation, implementation and training services.
Below are some of plant design software development and consultancy projects we have recently undertaken:
Plant Design Systems Development
MPDS4™ - Meeting the Challenges of Plant Design
Quintic provides a significant amount of both core and applications development for MPDS4™, a hybrid 2D/3D plant design system on which we work in partnership with CAD Schroer's developers in Germany.
Now in its fourth generation, MPDS4 provides an outstanding range of design and documentation capabilities to support both process and mechanical design requirements.
Using a powerful combination of 3D graphics and a continuous database, the largest plants can be modelled and viewed with ease, even in multi user environments. The MPDS™ 2D Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) system ensures consistency and accuracy between process diagrams and the plant design. Other powerful modules include Electrical, Piping, Steel, and Ducting Design, as well as Hangers & Supports, Engineering Review and Mechanical Handling.

MPDS4 FACTORY LAYOUT™ - Project Engineering: FAST Conceptual Layouts - EASY Visualisation
CAD Schroer commissioned Quintic's 2D to 3D experts to help design and develop its newest application for MPDS4: MPDS4 FACTORY LAYOUT™. The solution is designed for companies that deliver or maintain capital plants, factories or other process installations. It combines powerful drafting functionality with advanced 3D plant design capabilities. The software can integrate existing 2D layouts and 3D model files and allows designers to work in a 2D or 3D layout environment, with auto-update between the two worlds. Intelligent architectural components and catalogs for auto-placing connected equipment, from piping to conveyors, speed up the design process. Designers can easily generate virtual factory walk-through movies, making it an ideal pre-sales configuration or project review tool.
The latest development for this project includes the ability to generate e-mailable model files of entire plants or factories. A new MPDS4 REVIEW tool allows customers and partners to conduct their own installation walk-throughs and inspections and quickly feed back desired changes or corrections.
This is an ongoing development project. For more product information, please visit the CAD Schroer website.
Plant Engineering Systems Enhancements
Development of Steel Design Functionality Upgrade
Quintic recently developed the 3D steel design functionality for an upgrade release of a plant engineering package for one of the leading engineering technology providers for the Marine and Plant industries.
Plant Design System Training and Consultancy
We regularly undertake training, consultancy and customisation projects in support of the MPDS4 plant design system. Some of the projects we recently completed include:
- MPDS4 Plant Design System user training at Christ Kennicott Water Technology.
- MPDS4 Plant Design System User, Administration and Customisation Training at Delta Design, Milan, Italy.
- MEDUSA4 3D and Plant Design System training course covering 3D modelling, viewing and plant design, including piping, steelwork and factory layout for European plant contractor
- An introductory workshop to factory layout with MPDS4 in Italy for a global packaging machinery provider.
